Melbourne Lockdown is Ending, What Now?

Please note: the information is this blog is correct as of the time of publication, but is subject to change at the direction of the Victorian Government. We will endeavour to update it to reflect any changes in a timely manner.

Now that Melbourne lockdown is finally coming to an end, how will the next few months look for your move or the deceased estate you need to deal with?

Real Estate:

While technology has thankfully allowed for virtual inspections, real estate agents have been champing at the bit to get back to onsite, which they can now do, albeit with restrictions. Individual inspections of no more than 2 people from the same household  for 15 minutes can now be conducted, and the 5km radius doesn’t apply when travelling to and from inspections (though travel in and out of Melbourne is still banned). Onsite auctions are still prohibited, but at the next step, currently scheduled for October 19, they will be permitted, subject to gathering number limits. Canard Solutions has established relationships with real estate agents throughout Melbourne and we’re happy to arrange proposals from them if you need help finding the right one.

Moving:

Removalists have been able to operate with COVID Safe plans throughout the lockdown for clients who have signed contracts of sale or have come to the end of their lease, and this will continue to be the case. Packing services have been banned during Stage 4 due to the necessary confined, indoor workspace, though it will be allowed under the next step out of lockdown currently scheduled for October 19, with COVID Safe plans in effect.

Furniture/Household Item Sales:

Auction houses have been operating virtually with remote pick up and drop off providers throughout Stage 4, though no in-person viewings or auctions are presently permitted. It is expected that onsite restrictions will ease after step 3. There will be a limited window of opportunity to consign to auction houses before Christmas, as they are all planning closure of up to 4 weeks over the Christmas and New Year period. We understand that this will put further pressure on our clients who are planning to sell or move over this time so we will expand our online selling capabilities to accommodate them.

Donations:

Virtually all charities that accept material donations are closed at the moment, without a clear indication as to when they will return to operation. We will update this blog as they open up.

Recycling/Tipping:

Tips and transfer stations are closed for the foreseeable future with the exception of green waste which is currently being accepted at some locations. Skips can still be hired.

While it’s still unclear what the coming months will bring, Canard Solutions is here to help you through each step of the way. We are currently consulting with clients to plan their projects and effecting moves, and will be offering our full services with COVID Safe plans in place from the next step out of lockdown, currently scheduled for October 19.
